Chevrolet describes the completely redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500 as its most powerful and advanced Silverado yet, which is a sizeable claim for a truck with decades of development behind it. There is, however, plenty of new hardware to examine. Two new V8s join an upgraded TurboMax™, every engine now works with a 10-speed automatic, maximum trailering capacity rises to 13,700 lbs., and the electronic architecture supports larger displays and broader Super Cruise® availability. For Denver, CO, truck shoppers, the interesting part is how those changes work together.
Four Engines, but Three Have Changed Significantly
The 2.7L TurboMax™ now produces 350 hp and 455 lbs. ft. of torque, increases of 40 hp and 25 lbs. ft. of torque from the previous version. Its transmission changes from an 8-speed to a 10-speed automatic as well. The 3.0L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel continues with 305 hp and 495 lbs. ft. of torque. Above those sit 2 new V8s: a 5.7L producing 402 hp and 428 lbs. ft. of torque and a 6.6L generating 481 hp and 501 lbs. ft. of torque. Every engine now uses a 10-speed automatic, giving Chevrolet a common transmission format across 4 powertrains with very different output characteristics.
The Most Powerful Engine Isn't the Biggest Towing Engine
The 481 hp 6.6L may dominate the specification sheet for gas-engine output, but the new 5.7L holds the highest published trailering rating. A properly equipped Double Cab 2WD with the Max Trailering Package can tow up to 13,700 lbs., while the equivalent 4WD reaches 13,600 lbs. The Duramax® is rated for up to 12,000 lbs. in Crew Cab 4WD form with the Max Trailering Package, while the TurboMax™ reaches 9,400 lbs. in its highest-rated configuration. It is a good illustration of how towing capacity depends on the complete vehicle—cab, drivetrain, chassis, cooling, equipment, and weight—not simply the engine's output.
The New Cabin Brings More Technology to Every Model
Every 2027 Silverado receives a 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch Driver Information Center. High Country and ZR2 add an 11.5-inch passenger display, Head-Up Display, and Rear Camera Mirror, contributing to more than 60 inches of combined digital display area. The available Multi-Flex Center Console can fold into a work surface, while available dual wireless charging accommodates 2 compatible devices. OnStar® Basics is standard for 8 years and includes core connectivity features, built-in voice assistance, real-time navigation, remote commands, and compatible in-vehicle apps.
Super Cruise® Moves Deeper into the Range
Super Cruise® with trailering capability is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on Silverado and Trail Boss, allowing hands-free driver assistance on compatible roads, including with a compatible trailer attached. Standard driver-assistance equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Safety Alert Seat, and an HD Rear Vision Camera. Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Reverse Automatic Braking also become standard for 2027.
The Off-Road Models Get Mechanical Upgrades
Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, and ZR2 form the 3-model factory-lifted range. Trail Boss uses a 2-inch factory lift, 34-inch MT tires, and monotube shocks. ZR2 adds exclusive 35-inch MT tires, Multimatic® DSSV dampers, hydraulic jounce control dampers, and front and rear electronic-locking differentials. The available ZR2 Bison Edition pushes protection farther with AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and additional skid plates. These are functional chassis changes, not simply visual identifiers.
Seven Models Give the Hardware Different Jobs
The lineup consists of Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2. At one end, Work Truck provides the foundation for commercial applications. The other, High Country combines 22-inch wheels, real wood interior detailing, Adaptive Ride Control, and a standard panoramic sunroof. ZR2 takes the same core truck in a completely different direction with specialized suspension, lockers, and larger off-road tires. Denver, CO, drivers can visit AutoNation Chevrolet North to compare 2027 Silverado configurations, explore Chevrolet truck inventory, discuss towing and off-road equipment, value a trade-in, review financing options, and schedule a test drive when the redesigned Silverado arrives.
